At Old School House Nursery, we love any opportunity to celebrate the magic of stories and World Book Day gave us the perfect excuse to do just that.

This year, we were delighted to welcome a very special visitor into our nursery: one of our grandparents, who kindly volunteered their time to come in and read with the children. It was a truly heartwarming experience that perfectly reflects something we value deeply – strong partnerships with families.

🌟 A Love of Stories Starts Early

Reading plays such an important role in early childhood development. Through stories, children begin to build language skills, expand their imagination, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Whether it’s a familiar favourite or a brand-new adventure, every book opens up a world of possibilities.

Our cosy reading corner became the perfect setting for the day, with children settling in comfortably to listen, engage, and enjoy the shared experience of storytelling.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Working in Partnership with Families

We believe that learning doesn’t just happen within the nursery – it’s a shared journey between practitioners, children, and their families.

Having a grandparent come in to read is a wonderful example of this partnership in action. It gives children a sense of connection between home and nursery, helping them feel secure, valued, and supported in their learning environment. It also allows families to play an active role in their child’s development, which we actively encourage wherever possible.

💬 Creating Special Moments

The smiles, laughter, and engagement we saw during the session were a joy to witness. Moments like these are not only memorable for the children, but they also help to build confidence, listening skills, and social interaction.

We would like to say a big thank you to our visiting grandparent for taking the time to be part of our World Book Day celebrations – it really made the day extra special.

📖 Keeping the Story Going

World Book Day may only come once a year, but our love of reading continues every single day at Old School House Nursery. From quiet story time to interactive group sessions, we are always finding new ways to bring books to life.
