Toddler room has a capacity for up to 22 toddlers all 2 to 3 years of age. Ratio in this room then jumps to a 1-5 ratio but we are lucky enough to remain in a 1-4 ratio for as much as we can throughout the day as it used to be.

At two years and beyond, toddlers transform into energetic explorers with big feelings, vivid imaginations, and growing independence. Nurseries play a powerful role in supporting this stage by offering a rich, responsive environment that balances learning, play, emotional growth, and social development.

Activity stations like building blocks, sensory tables, and imaginative play zones encourage problem-solving and creativity. Storytime, singing, and playful counting games build foundational skills without pressure. Educators follow the child’s interests, helping them discover and learn through everyday experiences. Outdoor time, climbing frames, dancing, and active games refine motor skills, balance, and coordination.

We work alongside our SENCO in ensuring we are offering our toddlers the upmost care and support in language and communication as we recognise the importance of these early stages and the impact a strong understanding and language can have on a children’s communication, social skills and verbal communication. Staff talk and listen attentively, modelling language and introducing new vocabulary.

Circle time, songs, and stories promote turn-taking, listening skills, and expressive speech. We tailor our support and use visuals, gestures, and repetition to foster communication.

A well-supported two-year-old in a nursery setting isn’t just cared for—they’re empowered to explore, express, and expand their world.

Toilet training around age two can be both exciting and challenging, especially in a shared environment like a nursery. The key is consistency, positive reinforcement, and clear communication between staff and families. See more about toileting support and potty training in our toileting tab!
